Train for the Unknown and Unknowable.
“Our specialty is in NOT specializing.” “Preparation for the unknown and the unknowable.” “Fitness requires an ability to perform well at all tasks, even unfamiliar tasks, tasks combined in infinitely varying combinations. In practice this encourages the athlete to disinvest in any set notions of sets, rest periods, reps, exercises, order, of exercises, routines, periodization, etc. Nature frequently provides largely unforeseeable challenges; train for that by striving to keep the training stimulus broad and constantly varied.”

Tilting at Windmills
Sometimes I imagine, that to our friends, CrossFit must appear to be a Quixotic adventure. They don’t see the “giants” we see. Why must we do hundreds of things? Why must we lift so much, so fast, so often? To that I say, because I can, because I want to, because it is there. And maybe, because as a kid I imagined myself a superhero, and now for an hour a day, I get to be one. I get to lift heavy things, leap on boxes, and do things that to my friends seem inhuman. If I picture my cape flying behind me, maybe I can even run faster.
So, let us be a legion of Don Quixotes, tilting at windmills and being superheroes. Let us go out into the world inspired and big. Let reason and logic remain for the small.

Agave Nectar = “Liquid Death”
Below are some excerpts from an article I found that details the manufacturing process of agave nectar and explains why it’s not a good choice.
….Agave Syrup is not a “whole” food. It is a fractionated and processed food. Manufacturers take the liquid portion of the agave plant and “boil” it down, thus concentrating the sugar to make it sweet. This is similar to how maple “sap” that comes directly from a tree is heated and concentrated to make maple “syrup.” Agave Syrup is missing many of the nutrients that the original plant had to begin with.
….Agave Syrup and other concentrated sweeteners are addictive, so you end up trading a cooked addiction (eating candy bars or cookies) for a “raw” addiction which is not much better. Eating concentrated sweeteners makes it harder to enjoy the sweet foods we should be eating – whole fresh fruit since they don’t seem as sweet by comparison.
….agave needs to be hydrolyzed so that the complex fructosans are “broken down” into fructose units or it won’t be sweet!!
Robb Wolf often refers to agave nectar as “Liquid Death” and compares it to corn syrup. In keeping with a whole foods and paleo diet, free and clear of processed anything, sweet things are hard to come by. Sometimes we just have to come to terms with the fact that the “sweet” we grew up with (and possibly became addicted to) isn’t natural.

“Death by 10 Meters”
Set two lines 10 meters (33 feet) apart. Start a one minute running clock. Run ten meters the first minute. Run ten meters twice the second minute. Three times the third minute. Continue until you can not complete the the prescribed amount of runs within the minute time period. You must reach down and touch the ten meter line every run.

The Iron Doesn’t Lie.
“(CrossFit) calls you out when you’re being a total wimp by comparing your time/effort with everyone else and or comparing the last time you did the workout. CrossFit tells you when you’ve done an amazing job by leaving you on the floor about to cry, sweating your ass off, and lungs screaming, and not being able to see straight. Just remember CrossFit doesn’t lie to you, but you can lie to yourself. Just like the t-shirts say, ‘Train not to suck at life!’.”
If you come to CrossFit Chatsworth you will be coached. Day in, day out we focus on the basics. We insist on quality movement and we push the intensity. We aim for personal training in a group environment. We are a skills based training facility open to anyone willing to work hard. 3-2-1-GO!!!
